Mid-Century Modern House Architecture & Design

Our clients wanted to rebuild a 1958 hilltop home they’d lost in a wildfire. Our mission was to build them a new Mid-Century Modern home that took full advantage of their breathtaking scenery. To accomplish this custom home aesthetic, we created large open spaces with skylights and expansive glass walls to maximize natural lighting and showcase uninterrupted hilltop views. We added large picture windows and corner windows without posts to achieve an uninterrupted 360-degree view of the surrounding landscapes. Longer overhangs were designed to keep the home cool and protected from the sun.
Our clients wanted tranquil sounds of water to be heard inside the home. We designed a koi pond with cantilevered spillways to protect the Koi from any predators. This unique water feature was installed in the new atrium, which is placed in the center of the house. The koi pond is framed by large windows and glass sliding doors that allow it to be viewed and heard throughout the home.
